St. John of God Comprehensive Cancer Centre, Subiaco, WA
Officially named The Bendat Family Comprehensive Cancer Centre, has bought together most of the elements required for effective cancer care and combined them on one campus. Clinicians from a full range of disciplines associated with cancer treatment are provided including oncology, haematology and palliative care.
This four level facility, comprises outpatient facilities including a resource and information centre, clinical drug trial research, integrative therapies, colposcopy suite, day chemotherapy, pharmacy, pathology collection and consulting suites. The upper floors have an oncology inpatient unit, a palliative care unit, pastoral service support and endoscopy.
The building addresses key issues of functionality, environment, community and client expectation in delivering a sculptural solution that is a focal point of the SJOGHC Hospital Subiaco new entry precinct. It seeks to combine elements of light, earth and water to promote the theme of merging with the site and the existing site contours and creating a “cradled” entry within the campus environment.
This project was completed by Silver Thomas Hanley, Perth.
