New Professor Marie Bashir Centre Opens at RPA

A new $67 million mental health facility was opened last week on the grounds of Camperdown’s Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. This important project has been officially named the Professor Marie Bashir Centre in honour of the former NSW Governor’s significant contribution to the mental health field.

The 73-bed facility will begin to receive patients from November 18th and will provide innovative treatment facilities for approximately 2,000 mental health patients per year. Spread over four dedicated levels, facilities have been specifically designed to create a homelike, less formal atmosphere to help alleviate patient stress.

Designed by Silver Thomas Hanley in collaboration with peckvonhartel Architects, this innovative project was a joint initiative of the NSW Government, Sydney Local Health District and the University of Sydney.
