VCCC Showcase Rooftop Garden

The Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC) is closing in on its mid-year completion date with builders Grocon PCL and related contractors working methodically to complete the $1B world class facility.

A major feature of the buildings design are the eight gardens spread throughout the facility, with the hero piece being the 1,455 m2 rooftop garden terrace on level 7 which will feature over 100 varieties of plants, permanent sculptural canopies, BBQ facilities and a 14m long refectory table capable of seating over 50 people.

All eight VCCC gardens, designed by Landscape architects Rush Wright Associates, feature lightweight soil and a diverse range of low-allergenic plants and materials to allow for as many patients, staff and visitors to use the gardens as possible.

STH, in association with Design Inc (STHDI) and MCR Architects are delivering the VCCC facility as part of the Plenary Health consortium as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) under the Government’s Partnerships Victoria framework. The hospital is scheduled to open to the public in mid-2016.
