David Collins
Associate  (Melbourne, VIC)

David Collins is an Associate of Silver Thomas Hanley with a passion for creating appropriate architectural and urban environments within the natural and built settings of his projects. With over 12 years of experience at STH, David has established significant expertise in the design of a variety of health care facilities ranging from mental health, teaching, training and research, through to the most complex of acute tertiary facilities.

David undertook a key role on the CA$355m Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre, completed in 2008, relocating to Canada for the project. Awarded Canada’s PPP of the year in 2005, the project is regarded for its major environmental initiatives, acknowledged with Gold LEED (equivalent of 5 star Green Star), the first in Canada for a major acute hospital.

Recent key experience includes the design and delivery of the Sunshine Hospital Teaching Training and Research facility - a 5 level building on the Sunshine Hospital campus. The striking design features a large Central Atrium allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the building. Also two “Activity Strands” instead of one large building mass maximizes access to daylight and views for the building occupants, by reducing the distances to external windows.
