Epworth Richmond Hospital, Richmond VIC
STH were commissioned by Epworth Healthcare to design and document the major staged redevelopment of their Epworth Richmond campus in 2010. The redevelopment is located on the existing Epworth Richmond site, and consists of refurbishment and new-build construction totalling approximately 96,000 m2. The completed facility will include a total of 777 beds with increases in emergency, surgical, intensive care, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, renal dialysis and rehabilitation services. This includes a new emergency department, 40 operating theatres and 430 new private rooms.
To date there has been many staged projects completed, including a new Day Medical Unit (40 place Day Oncology, Sleep Studies and Renal Dialysis), Operating Theatre and Day Surgery expansion, Medical Imaging expansion including new Nuclear Medicine and MRI modalities, and an Education and Simulation Centre, used by on-site staff and visiting students from many local universities. The existing Bridge Road facing entry building was refurbished with a new façade and port cochere, new retail and glass feature entry stair, with a multi-level Consulting Tower for medical specialists (in conjunction with Bates Smart).
The Lee Wing building was the most recent stage of the major redevelopment works and was completed in 2016. The 30,000m2, 8 storey tower delivered a new Emergency department with 35 treatment spaces, a 26 bed ICU, 39 bed Acute Cardiac Inpatient Unit and High Dependency Unit, a new Operating Theatre Suite (6 Theatres including a Hybrid) and 111 private rooms including VIP suites. The top floor houses additional consulting suites for medical specialists. There is also a
5-level basement carparking provided. The façade references the Victorian terraces lining Erin Street, in a contemporary manner with a variety of stone materials at the podium level. The interiors reinforce the Epworth brand with rich reds and walnut timbers and marble reception desks.
The latest stage of the redevelopment is the new Cardiac Catheter Lab Suite which replaces the existing suite and is currently under construction.
