Frankston Private Hospital, Frankston, VIC

Situated in one of the highest growth areas in Victoria, the Frankston Private Hospital is an amalgamation of Frankston Private Day Surgery and Peninsula Oncology. The new facility provides healthcare services to over 8,500 patients from the South Eastern, Bayside and Peninsula communities each year. These services include Diagnostics, Pathology, Specialist Consulting, Day Surgery and Day Oncology.

STH were commissioned by both private healthcare provider, Healthscope, and Generation Healthcare REIT to design a state-of-the-art, dedicated private acute healthcare facility that can grow with the increasing demand placed on local healthcare services. The project scope included the expansion of 2 theatres, 60 overnight beds and connection to the existing hospital.

The contemporary new building references the diagonal “strips” of the adjacent existing hospital to create a cohesive street presence and a new main entrance to the Hospital. This is done through the design of a glazed curtain wall with diagonal spandrel panels, and a powdercoated white shadow box that expresses the prominent corner site.

The interior design reflects the Peninsula coast landscape, with light timbers, white stone, and blue & beige tones applied in the furniture and fittings. A new entry foyer provides a fresh and inviting central lobby for visitors, patients and staff and graphics have been integrated into plywood feature paneling at ward entries to allow for easy navigation of the Hospital. External views have been maximised throughout the Hospital with large picture windows within patient bedrooms and at the end of corridors. The Oncology Centre has utilised the external views and light through the design of patient treatment bays with side service panels/storage units to allow for windowed surrounds and bench seating for patients, visitors and carers.
