Mater Private Hospital Cancer Care Centre, Springfield, QLD
STH delivered this new private hospital in Springfield, Queensland for Mater Health as part of Springfield Land Corporation’s 52 hectare health and wellness precinct known as Health City Springfield Central.
STH completed full master plan services and initial design works for the new 80 bed private hospital in 2013 with the focus of developing the layout and functional relationships of the new facility. The hospital was designed to expand, with Stage 1 containing 80 beds, and ability to expand up to 750 beds in the future. New façade designs were completed in June 2014 to align with Mater Health’s vision for the building to be a unique, benchmark facility for the future development of the Health City Springfield Central project.
The five level building was designed to reflect the Mater values and quality of care with a family centred approach. Innovative technology was embedded in the design with integrated room control for patients and full integrated digital Theatres. A new cancer centre, with Government funding, provides 15 medical oncology treatment bays and a linear accelerator.
The interiors are bespoke and intended to reflect a hospitality environment, with bronze pendants, integrated gases, warm timbers and leaf patterns used to create a distinctive Australian interior. Sliding screens with patterned glass separate the individual oncology bays providing privacy to each patient.
This project was designed by STH in a joint venture with PDT (Brisbane).
