Northern Centre for Health Education & Research, Epping, VIC
Silver Thomas Hanley, in association with Merat Architects completed contract documentation for this educational facility in 2010 for Northern Health and its partners La Trobe University and the University of Melbourne. The purpose of the facility was to increase capacity for clinical teaching on the Northern Hospital campus in Epping, with student numbers expected to rise.
This purpose built two level facility features shared teaching and educational areas,research space, simulation centre, laboratory facilities, two auditoriums, kitchen and lounge space, offices and dedicated space for both Melbourne and La Trobe Universities in an integrated learning environment.
Collaboration is nurtured by a circulation pattern focused on a central atrium featuring casual ‘breakout’ areas at each level. This space is naturally lit via aglazed rooftop to the atrium, providing an attractive setting for informal learning anddiscussion. The facility has the capacity to train an additional 700 health students per year due to the expansion works.
Construction of this project commenced in May 2013 with final completion in Q4 2014. Interiors by CMI Design.
