St Catharines Hospital, Niagara, OT, CANADA

Silver Thomas Hanley, as part of the Plenary Health team and in association with B+H Architects, Canada, were successful in winning the Public Private Partnership (PPP) project for Niagara Health System’s new Healthcare Complex in St Catharine’s, Ontario, Canada. It was the first hospital to be constructed as a Design, Build, Finance and Maintain (DBFM) project in partnership with Infrastructure Ontario under the provincial governments Alternative Financing and Procurement delivery model.

With construction and commissioning complete, the new facility opened its doors to patients in March, 2013. The state-of-the-art, 5-storey acute care community hospital facility replaced two aging facilities in the Niagara region and accommodates 375 acute care beds, and associated outpatient and support services and provides a comprehensive range of enhanced  programs and clinical services. Eighty per cent of the hospital’s rooms are single patient rooms, the most currently available in a community hospital in Ontario.

In addition to offering new regional services such as comprehensive cancer care, cardiac catheterization and longer-term mental health, the hospital offers acute and critical inpatient services, surgical services, women, infant and children’s health, emergency and ambulatory services all under one roof.
