Sunshine Hospital Inpatient Unit, St Albans, VIC

Silver Thomas Hanley was successful in the design and documentation of the Sunshine Hospitals, Inpatient Unit Building. The project offers 4 levels comprising of 4x32 bed generic inpatient suites with a total of 128 beds, a special care nursery and temporary accommodation for ambulatory care.

The Sunshine Hospital Project was awarded with very specific, non-negotiable deliverables, including a challenging budget. During the design phase the project team worked through significant cost overruns and were able to return the project to surplus without any compromise to the design or finishes. The final solution was an efficient inpatient building design that limited the amount of ‘non-productive’ space.

This facility was recently completed and opened to the public in February 2013. The project was delivered to Western Health 5 months ahead of schedule and under budget.

"The lack of issues identified by our staff is an indication of the foresight of your (STH) designers and their ability to listen to our stakeholders. The amount of natural light in the clinical spaces has made Western Health a more pleasant place to work at".
Bruce MacIsaac, Director Capital Planning & Development, Western Health.
