Western Centre for Health Research & Education, St Albans, VIC

Silver Thomas Hanley designed this teaching, training and research facility for Western Health, the University of Melbourne and Victoria University. The $40 million, 5 level facility includes a new main lobby, reception and function area, lecture theatres, seminar facilities, clinical school, a 200 seat auditorium, student lounge, simulation labs, wet labs, office accommodation and a 37 m² ground floor cafe.

The key design features include the introduction of a central atrium which allows for natural light to penetrate deep into the building on the lower floors. The facility was designed with two main activity strands or pavilions instead of one large building mass to maximize access to daylight and surrounding views for the building occupants.

Silver Thomas Hanley worked with Cockram Construction Ltd as the Construction Manager/Builder to deliver this exciting project.
