Wyong Hospital Mental Health and Detox Units, Wyong, NSW

As part of the overall $200 million redevelopment of Wyong & Gosford Hospitals, STH undertook the masterplan and design and development of a 50 bed adult mental inpatient unit, outpatients and clinical administration unit at Wyong Hospital. The 50 beds are comprised of 25 bed adult unit, 15 bed psychogeriatric unit, 5 bed High Dependency unit and 5 bed PICU. The unit integrates with the new 15 bed Wyong Detox Unit and is mainstreamed with the Wyong Hospital.

This freestanding building is located on the Wyong Hospital campus. The building houses a 15 bed inpatient unit for detoxification and an outpatient methadone clinic. The use of a strong curved red wall separates the two units and frames a glazed link and main entry. White curved roofs provide an inviting element, and conceal the services plant. Natural light is maximised to all spaces. The detoxification unit was later connected to a new inpatient adult acute unit that was also designed by Silver Thomas Hanley.
