Tweed Valley Hospital

The Tweed Valley Hospital (TVH) is a transformative healthcare development, designed to deliver world-class medical and mental health services to the growing Tweed region. A landmark greenfield project delivered by Studio STH in collaboration with Bates Smart, TVH replaces the existing regional hospital, significantly enhancing capacity and service delivery.

At the heart of its comprehensive mental health services, the Kurrajong Adult Mental Health Unit provides a 25-bed inpatient facility, including a dedicated 5-bed High Acuity Unit for intensive clinical support. Adjacent to the inpatient unit, a Comprehensive Community Mental Health Service ensures a seamless transition between inpatient and outpatient care, supporting continuity and accessibility. Designed for future growth, the mental health facilities allow for scalable expansion to meet increasing demand.

Strategic site selection was key to promoting patient recovery and well-being. Positioned on an elevated part of the campus, the mental health unit overlooks a lush nature reserve, with its main courtyard oriented northward to maximise natural light and create a serene, restorative environment. The broader hospital site is immersed in the natural beauty of the Tweed region, offering sweeping ocean views toward Wommin Bay and mountain vistas extending to Wollumbin National Park.

The new hospital elevates healthcare for the region with expanded emergency, surgical, and medical services; enhanced ambulatory and outpatient care; a new cardiac catheterisation service; and integrated cancer care, including radiotherapy.

By integrating advanced medical services with thoughtful design, Tweed Valley Hospital sets a new benchmark for patient-centred, sustainable healthcare.
