Tweed Valley Hospital Masterplan
Cudgen, New South Wales
The Tweed Valley Hospital (TVH) is a landmark greenfield development designed to deliver world-class medical and mental health services to the growing Tweed region. Delivered by Studio STH in collaboration with Bates Smart, TVH replaces the existing regional hospital, significantly expanding capacity and improving service delivery.
The project began with a comprehensive site selection process, where Studio STH played a key role. Through early test studies, Studio STH validated that the chosen site on Cudgen Road met critical criteria, including strong road and transport connections, future expansion potential, and access to natural amenity. The location offers sweeping ocean views toward Wommin Bay and mountain vistas to Wollumbin National Park, enhancing the hospital’s healing environment.
Working closely with Health Infrastructure NSW and Northern NSW Local Health District, Studio STH developed a comprehensive area model. This included both the immediate clinical program and provisions for future facilities. The hospital was strategically positioned on the central site plateau to optimise topography, orientation, access, and views, while informing the internal road network and future development zones.

The new hospital introduces expanded emergency, surgical, medical, ambulatory, and outpatient services, along with integrated cancer care and a cardiac catheterisation service. TVH sets a new benchmark in sustainable, patient-centred regional healthcare, blending clinical excellence with thoughtful, healing-focused design.
