Box Hill Hospital Redevelopment
Box Hill, Victoria
The Box Hill Hospital Redevelopment transformed the facility into the major referral center for Melbourne’s East, ensuring the region’s growing population has access to world-class healthcare. The $447.5 million project expanded critical services, including a larger emergency department, increased intensive care capacity, and additional operating theatres, supporting faster and more efficient patient care.
Designed with patient outcomes in mind, the hospital now integrates inpatient and day cancer treatment, cardiac catheter laboratories, and a dedicated women’s health precinct, ensuring specialised care is accessible within a single facility. The co-location of imaging services with the emergency department streamlines diagnosis and treatment, reducing delays and improving clinical efficiency.
The project was completed ahead of schedule through strategic planning and stakeholder collaboration, minimising disruption to ongoing hospital operations. A modular tower design allowed for additional ‘shell floors,’ providing flexibility for future expansion without exceeding the initial budget.

STH understands the hospital operating environment very well which enables strategic planning to minimize disruption and costly multiple temporary services decanting.
