Professor Marie Bashir Centre

Camperdown, New South Wales

Under One Roof

The Professor Marie Bashir Centre at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital unites many of Sydney’s mental health services in a purpose-built, six-storey facility designed to foster integrated care, research, and healing. A collaboration between the NSW Government, Sydney Local Health District, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and the University of Sydney, the centre prioritizes patient recovery and well-being through a thoughtfully designed environment.

With 73 beds, a six-bed short-stay unit, an assessment unit, and dedicated spaces for adolescent and youth services, the facility supports a comprehensive approach to mental health care. The inclusion of a high-dependency unit, a mothers and babies pod, and seven research beds for the University of Sydney underscores its commitment to advancing mental health treatment and innovation. research.

Designed for comfort and recovery, the centre features warm interiors, Sydney-inspired imagery, landscaped courtyards, and break-out spaces to create a welcoming and therapeutic setting. By combining clinical expertise with an environment that promotes openness and hope, the facility helps patients feel safe and supported in their healing journey.

Studio STH, in collaboration with peckvonhartel architects, provided health architecture and planning services from functional briefing through to project completion.
