Monash Children’s Hospital

Clayton, Victoria

Comprehensive Care

The Monash Children’s Hospital was designed to address the growing demand for specialised paediatric care in Victoria, consolidating services from multiple campuses into a single, state-of-the-art facility. As Australia’s third-largest children’s hospital, it integrates tertiary, primary, and secondary care, ensuring comprehensive and cohesive healthcare delivery for children and adolescents.

The 230-bed facility includes 96 paediatric inpatient beds, 12 cancer day beds, 10 paediatric intensive care (PICU) beds, 30 neonatal intensive care (NICU) cots, and 28 beds for child and adolescent mental health services. Expanded operating theatres, medical imaging, and outpatient facilities further enhance its capacity to meet current and future needs. The hospital’s design prioritises flexibility, allowing for future growth and adaptation to evolving healthcare requirements.

A key outcome of the project is its focus on family-centered care. The co-design process involved key stakeholders, including patients, families, and clinicians, ensuring the facility meets the unique needs of its young patients and their caregivers. The integration of teaching, education, and research spaces, including a dedicated surgical simulation suite, fosters innovation and supports the next generation of paediatric healthcare professionals.

The hospital’s strategic location on the Monash Medical Centre Clayton campus ensures seamless integration with existing services while future-proofing the site for further expansion. By combining advanced medical capabilities with a welcoming, child-friendly environment, the Monash Children’s Hospital sets a new standard for pediatric care, improving outcomes for children and families across Victoria.
