Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Redevelopment Stage 2 & 2A

Hornsby, New South Wales

Innovative Care

The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Redevelopment (Stage 2 and 2A) is designed to enhance patient care, streamline hospital operations, and future-proof healthcare delivery for the growing community. By expanding and modernising the hospital’s facilities, the redevelopment strengthens the hospital’s ability to deliver contemporary Models of Care in a patient-centred environment.

The project includes a refurbished and expanded Emergency Department and a new six-storey Clinical Services Building, integrating key departments such as Intensive Care, High Dependency, Cardiac Investigations, Paediatrics, and Ambulatory Care. With 147 consult rooms and improved inpatient units, the design optimizes clinical workflows while providing a welcoming and functional healthcare space. A dedicated helipad ensures rapid access to emergency care, reducing critical response times.

A phased opening strategy has enabled the early activation of key services, with the Medical Imaging department and Paediatrics Ward now fully operational. Building on Stage 2, Stage 2A introduces a new two-storey outpatient services building, addressing the demand for specialised care in Renal, Chemotherapy, Breast Screening, and Oral Health.

As a redevelopment within an active hospital campus, this project required careful planning and collaboration to minimise disruption to existing services. By working closely with contractors and clinicians, Studio STH delivered an efficient staging strategy, allowing for seamless transitions between old and new facilities. The result is a hospital environment that not only meets clinical and regulatory standards but also fosters a sense of familiarity and ease for staff and patients alike.
